Wake up to your senses

When I wake up to my senses,

life becomes more vivid

I look up and the sky is the brightest blue I’ve seen

I hear the birds, busy with their daily work

My tongue emerges from my mouth and drips open, awaiting

The ground is wet and morning dew seeps through my cotton dress

And there the lizard is again, watching, from the corner of the porch

When I wake up to my senses,

life makes more sense

“Ah-ha’s” chime like bells in my head

I am here

this is now

I am here

this is now

oh

An understanding of this moment: my body, myself, located at the center of it

The way the bird is center to itself

The way the grass is center to itself

The way the lizard is center to itself

The way the mountain is center to itself

Yet here we all are in a strange choreography together

The steps become known

Only in the moment they are danced
